You can "cheat" the combat, use heavy attack, if it fails you can press in the bottom to go back a frame which will allow you to do light attack which always work, if the heavy attack hits congrats!
I was having fun until I softlocked on day 7 (before realizing from these other comments that there's more so I don't have to complete everything in 5/7 days) because I got bad luck against an endo and hadn't saved cause I wasn't expecting one bad endo fight to boot me back to the title screen.
